Last updated 8 September 2026. This page lists what millirec stores, item by item, because the honest answer is "very little".
Recognition happens on the device. A drawing is turned into a vote, a letter, or a symbol in the visitor's own browser; the drawing itself is not needed on our server to do that, and the character recognizers you download never contact us at all.
The widget sets no cookies. It uses the browser's local storage for the voter token.
A widget stores the configuration you chose, the drawing samples you added for its symbols, an edit token, and the time it was created. There is no account, no email, and no name.
Everything you draw or upload stays in your browser unless you press save to server, which stores the library's configuration and training samples under a random id with an edit token, so the link can be reopened later. Downloads are assembled in your browser.
The site can accept handwriting samples that a writer chooses to donate for training. A donated sample is the strokes, the text they were meant to spell, and a random per-browser id that groups one hand's samples; no name or contact is attached. Donation is always an explicit action, never a side effect of using a widget or a recognizer.
Like any web server, ours keeps standard access logs (address, page, time, browser identification) for operation and abuse prevention. They are kept for a limited time and are not used for advertising or sold. We use no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts.
The service is self-hosted. No data is sent to third-party services. The optional badge image is served from this site.
Turning off "show visitors' drawings" in the widget editor stops thumbnails from being collected or shown from then on. To have stored drawings, votes, a widget, a library, or a donated sample removed, write to robmwilc@gmail.com with the id in question; there is no self-service deletion yet.
