Terms of service

Last updated 8 September 2026. millirec is in beta; these terms are short on purpose and will grow with the service.

Who provides this

millirec is operated by Robert Wilcox ("we"). You can reach us at robmwilc@gmail.com.

What the service is

• Widgets: reactions and star ratings you embed on your own site. Your visitors draw a symbol; the drawing is recognized in their browser, and our server keeps the count per widget.
• Character recognizers: downloadable files (the ready-made capital-letter recognizers and libraries you build yourself) that run entirely on the page you put them on. Once downloaded they do not talk to us.

No accounts

There are no accounts. A widget or a saved library is identified by its id, and edits need the edit token issued when it was created. Anyone who has the id and token can edit it, so keep them private. We cannot recover a lost token.

Acceptable use

• Embed the widget only on sites you control or are allowed to modify; use the allowed-origins setting to keep it there.
• Do not use the widgets to collect anything but reactions and ratings, and do not use them for anything unlawful, deceptive, or harassing.
• Visitors' drawings may be shown on your page when "show visitors' drawings" is on. You are responsible for what your page shows; we may remove drawings or widgets that are reported as abusive.
• Do not overload the service. Writes are rate-limited per address; automated voting is not permitted.

Downloads and licence

The recognizer files you download from this site may be used on your own sites and in your own apps, commercial or not. Training samples you upload or draw into a library remain yours. We give no warranty about recognition accuracy: the numbers on the site are measured on held-out writing and say what they say, nothing more.

Availability and changes

This is a beta. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service, and we may delete widgets or libraries that have been unused for a long time. We will try to give notice on this site before removing anything that is in use.

Liability

The service is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from its use or unavailability. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the state of South Carolina, USA.
